Comments from Phil:

Sunny G came to me while getting a hair cut one day. I was sitting in the chair, and for some reason I started thinking about Sunny D. I remembered that I had wanted to do a Sunny D commercial spoof about a year earlier, but never got around to it. So I started thinking of ways to spoof it. The only thing I could come up with was changing the name to Sunny K. I thought it'd be funny if the guys go to get their Sunny D, but instead find Sunny K, and are all "What?" and then I thought Sunny G would sound funnier, because it sounds like Kenny G who is also funny. I went home and wrote part of the script. I sent it to an online buddy, who read it over and associate the G part of Sunny G to that gangsta talk. You know, like "Yo, G, what up?" So I turned Sunny G into an actual character, and that's when I became very comfortable with the script. if it makes me laugh while I read it and imagine it, then it's perfect to me.

Filming day! Filming happened on July 4th, 2005. There's actually not too much I can say about the filming, except that it was loads of fun, and one of my best productions. For once everyone co-operated, the bloopers were not intentional, and for the most part I didn't have to improvise my shots (it was really only about 80% of the basketball scene that I didn't work out in my head prior to filming). The basketball scene was kind of exhausting, though. I was just running around holding a camera, I don't know how Derek and Jude kept alive, especially in that near (or spot on) 30 degrees heat. Derek and Jude were also able to pull off all the stuff I asked them to do, as well as have some ideas of their own, so good job to them. You only see about 20 seconds of their playing, and we filmed almost 20 minutes worth of it, mostly bloopers.

The final scene in the kitchen was Cameron's moment to shine. He did an awesome job portraying an angry black guy who had his juice stolen. It took him a while to really get into it, but he got it. He also had to drink lots of the Sunny G for that one shot. I think he went through four glasses.

My only problem with this movie is that it was intended to be a commercial (at least until Sunny G showed up), since it was spoofing the Sunny D commercials. It didn't quite turn out that way. The basketball scene, while looking quite good if I do say so myself, turned out to be more like a music video, and the shots leading up to the introduction of Sunny G were a bit too slow for a commercial, especially one about juice. But at least I filmed everything I wrote (especially the "essential" Sunny D shots), and it flows well enough for it to make sense, so I'm happy.
